When autumn rolls around so does the cool, wet weather that brings the changing of leaves and the eventual chill that drives people to stay indoors for as long as possible. Except it isn’t just the colour of the leaves that are changing, so too are the driving conditions nationally for road users. Instead of the dazzling sunlight we have become so used to, we are now faced with darker evenings and our first icy windscreen in at least six months.
When conducting our vehicle repairs at the Bodyshop, we’ve noticed that there are certain aspects of your car that many people don’t seem to stay on top of. It’s absolutely essential that you ensure your vehicle is up to scratch and that you are fully prepared before taking to the road:
Check Your Battery
A flat battery is one of the most common causes of any breakdown, particularly in the cooler months of the year when you are getting more use out of your car. If there is any sign of your battery struggling now, chances are it will let you down at some point during the winter. Therefore it is essential you get it sorted right away to avoid the hassle and inconvenience of an unplanned failure later.
Check Your Bulbs
This is not the time of year when you want your bulbs to run out! With the nights drawing in, you should be checking your bulbs at least once a week to ensure they are still in working order, this includes checking your brake lights. Many people seem to forget about this, so make sure you are prepared with an extra set if need be.
Check your Tyres
When examining your tyres it important to consider everything from their pressure to their condition and tread depth. So that you’re not skidding in icier conditions when the temperature really decides to drop, you should have at least 3mm of tread. If possible, try to make sure that you have a spare set – just in case!
Check your Windscreen
The last thing you’d ever want is to get caught out by the unexpected, so as well as completing all of the above make sure you stock up on all of the essentials: good quality windscreen washer fluid and antifreeze.
This time of year can prove increasingly problematic when it comes to accidents and dents, so make sure you remain extra vigilant as the road conditions become a little less predictable. If, for whatever reason you find yourself involved in an accident with a little more than a minor dent or scratch to the bodywork, you can rely on our trusty team of experts to get you and your car back on the road safely.
