Vehicle brake calipers that show signs of age or rust will dramatically let down the overall appearance of any car. Let’s face it, having refurbished wheels can only go so far if your unsightly calipers are peering out from behind.
To preserve, or enhance, the look of your vehicle, our brake caliper painting service presents a cost-effective solution. We provide a range of colors for painted calipers and can even offer decals and other options to achieve your desired finish.
Throughout London and the South-East we have extensive experience of painting brake calipers and have been a trusted car modification garage since 1985. Our workshop is located in Ilford, Essex, so feel free to drive in for a free estimate, or alternatively give our team a call.

Painted Calipers from The Bodyshop
Our calipers undergo thorough rubbing down, utilising a specialised paint that you will not get from any store-bought or DIY alternatives. This ensures a flawlessly even, glossy, and resilient paint finish, which means your calipers maintain their freshness for a very long time!
When it comes to selecting paint for calipers, our workshop has an endless list of colours that can be applied. Not only do we have pre-made colours that are ready to go, such as red caliper paint, but our experienced mechanics are able to create customised paint for car calipers, ensuring you get the final look you are after. For the latter, you can even provide the paint code you would like and we can match it!
The Bodyshop also offers brake caliper powder coating. This is an ideal option if you are looking for a smoother and consistent finish to your calipers compared to a paint job, not to mention greater durability against chips and marks.
Our Car Caliper Painting Process
If you wish to have your brake calipers painted, there are four primary stages to our service. Though this does not cover absolutely everything, it provide an outline of our process:
- Cleaning – Our team takes a thorough approach by completely removing all existing paint on the calipers, guaranteeing a pristine surface for the application of new paint. In addition to this the calipers are cleaned extensively, removing any grit before the painting phase.
- Priming – A primer paint is applied to the caliper, in order to provide greater adhesion for the new paint.
- Painting – A blend of high-temperature paint and a durable clear coat layer guarantees an impeccable glossy finish.
- Future-Proofing – Looking for paint for your brakes that carry a long-term guarantee? Look no further than The Bodyshop!

Caliper Painting Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
Our caliper painting process begins with selecting the preferred colour. The work then starts by rubbing down the existing caliper to remove any grit and once this is completed the primer coat is applied. Once the primer has dried we layer on the chosen paint colour and finally the lacquer (clear coat) is registered, to ensure a professional finish. The Bodyshop can also apply custom stickers between the colour coat and the top lacquer layer, which is a popular choice for customers who want to display the make of the car.
An important consideration is whether the customer wants their calipers painted while still on the car, or off the vehicle completely.
If the calipers remain on the vehicle then masking tape will be placed around the caliper and disc, as to not paint over another part of the wheel and the process highlighted above can begin. This is typically a cheaper option, however not every possible part of the caliper can be painted over as they are hidden from sight.
Alternatively calipers can be taken off the brake system completely and broken down into individual components, with this approach 100% of the caliper will be painted, with no gaps missing. The drawbacks are that it is slightly more costly and you will need to re-bleed to brakes system afterwards. Most importantly however, if your brake calipers are old or weathered, then the hinges could break off upon removal. The process of drilling out the hinge and re-threading the hole requires our technician’s expertise, which can once again effect the price.
Naturally our team would provide a recommendation on what approach to take when painting your calipers, to ensure you attain the finish you are after, while keeping costs down.
You can apply brake caliper paint yourself, however you will not get a professional finish with store-bought substitutes. This is due to the specialist equipment that car garages have on-site, including paint guns and an oven to bake the calipers with their new colour.
