Premium Car Dent Repairs
At The Bodyshop we offer more than one solution to fix a dent to your automobile. Depending on the severity of bodywork damage, we can utilise a variety of tools and techniques to ensure an efficient solution and get that dent out of your vehicle!
Paintless Dent Removal
Paintless dent removal (PDR) is a method of repairing car bodywork dents by reshaping the panel, without the use of paint. This dent fix is only suitable for minor impact damage, such as from hail, and therefore the use of filler and a paint touch up is not necessary.
For paintless dent repair, our expert mechanics use specialist equipment to gain access to the reverse of the affected panel and effectively ‘push’ the dent from the inside out. PDR is a common application for a car door dent repair, due to the ease of accessibility of this area.
Paintless dent removals with The Bodyshop are a cheap and fast solution to fix vehicle impact damage, seeing as there is no requirement for a new paintjob or a paint blend. Additionally this method is environmentally friendly due to less energy usage and reduced wastage from paint.
As you might expect, other dent repair options would have to be considered if the damaged zone is considerable, or if the affected panel has a chip or a scratch. We would not advise paintless dent repair to a panel that had a scratch or split, as the paintwork damage would still be visible, even if the dent was fixed.
Repairs for Significant Dent Damage
PDR is not a recommended dent repair solution if a scratch also exists, if the overall damage is more substantial or the affected area is inaccessible (e.g. a dented panel near the fuel tank). In these instances we would use a specialist utensil to beat the dent outwards from the inside, reducing the size of the dent and bringing the affected zone more in line with the rest of the panel. Once the material has been brought forward then our engineers will professionally craft filler to level the panel and the final step will then be to apply an even paintjob, to get your vehicle looking as good as new.
For major dents (over 40% of the panel damaged) we would typically recommend replacing the panel entirely, due to filler not being a suitable solution for significant damage. If filler is used as a remedy for large dents it would result in a good percentage of your panel material being made up of resin, which is unsustainable and leaves your bodywork vulnerable to cracks. This option of a car dent repair could not be guaranteed and a new panel would instead be advocated.

Car Dent Repair Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
We propose the following three solutions for dent repairs, which would be applied depending on the severity of dent damage:
- Paintless dent repair for minor dents.
- Panel beating and filler for medium-to-large sized dents.
- Panel replacement for significant dent damage.
A dent repair cost can vary considerably depending on factors such as the size of the dented area, location of the damage, whether the panel has been chipped, the bodywork material and much more.
On the lowest end, you can expect to pay £60 for a dent repair, however at the top end the cost could rise to around £500 depending on a multitude of points.
Attempting to remove a dent yourself can be risky and may cause further damage to your vehicle, for example a home tool could lead to further scratches to your car’s paint. Moreover DIY dent fixes can take a significant amount of time and effort, not to mention you could end up spending more money than you initially anticipated.
Finally, if the dent is located on a critical part of the vehicle, such as the frame, it is best to have it repaired by a certified car garage to ensure the safety of yourself and others on the road.
Boiling water can be used to remove small dents from cars in some circumstances, particularly on plastic or flexible panels. However it is important to note that this method is not often effective, especially on deeper dents.
More importantly, using boiling water to remove a dent may also cause damage to the paint of the car. So we advise you to approach this method with the utmost caution and instead seek expert help from a reputable car bodyshop.
