What is a Car Service?

A car service is taking your vehicle for a routine health check up. The intensity of the check up depends on how old your car is and also how long has passed since the last time it was examined.

Common parts of a car that are checked during a service include the following:

  • Lights, tyres and bodywork
  • Brakes and steering
  • Suspension
  • Exhaust
  • Battery
  • Engine oil and oil filter

A service will ensure that your vehicle remains healthy for longer, which is why it is crucial to plan for regular maintenance checks.

Once the servicing has taken place, we will suggest any recommended fixes (if applicable) to ensure your car is performing optimally and safely. You could consider using our vehicle repair service for a cost-effective and reliable solution.

Benefits of a Vehicle Service

Unlike an MOT, a service is not compulsory, however there are many benefits in proceeding with regular checkups.

  1. Safety – First and foremost safety is the most important factor when it comes to vehicles. A maintenance check ensures your vehicle is safe to be on the road. Tyre safety is a crucial element of a car service, which minimises the risk of an accident when the weather worsens around London and Essex.
  2. Improved longevity – If your vehicle is used on a regular basis, then chances are certain parts of the automobile are not working optimally. A service will resolve any of these issue, so that the life expectancy of your car is prolonged.
  3. Lower costs – In the long-run, maintenance checks should save you a considerable amount of money. This stems from greater fuel efficiency, fewer premature failure of car parts and of course reduced breakdowns and associated costs with roadside assistance.
  4. Maintaining vehicle warranty – Regular auto servicing ensures your warranty remains intact.
  5. Maximising car value – It should be no surprise that a car that is well cared for will perform and appear better, ultimately increasing the resale cost of the car.
  6. Greater performance – Regular checkups will keep your vehicle in good condition, enabling a more responsive and comfortable ride, not to mention making it more environmentally friendly.

Different Tiers of Servicing

There are three levels of car servicing and the type of service you may require is dependent on the factors highlighted below.

  • Interim Service

An interim service is the most basic package for a car inspection, recommended for those with a high mileage who need checkups more often. It is carried out approximately every 6 months, or 6,000 miles, and will consist of fundamental items, including:

    • Lubrication of moving parts
    • Oil (filter) changes
    • Core components inspection
  • Full Service

A full service is a grade above an interim service and is recommended once every 12 months, or 12,000 miles. This tier is recommended if you have an average car mileage, or have had a major service or MOT recently.

In addition to the assessments in the interim service level, you can expect:

    • Radiator inspection
    • Air filter change
    • Testing of electric components
  • Major Service

A major service is the most comprehensive tier of maintenance carried out every 24 months, or 24,000 miles. Expect everything in the full service tier and more including:

    • Brake fluid replacement
    • Battery testing
    • Changing cabin filter

The Bodyshop helped repair some accident damage to my car, including door replacement, dent removal, painting, and related tasks. The finished result was impeccable, the work was completed promptly, and they offered a much better quote than the dealership's garage. The main contact, Rebecca, was also outstanding - the best customer service I've ever had from a garage. She was super helpful, very responsive, and helped me save a few quid by sourcing some of the parts from secondary sources.

I had severely damaged the left rear door on my Range Rover Evoque and reached out to The Bodyshop. The service (from the very first interaction to driving out of the garage with a fully restored vehicle) was exceptional. Rebecca Kauter gave me different options and her honest advise on what route should be pursued and kept me promptly informed of the status. Very satisfied and highly recommended. Thank you

Martin and his team at the Bodyshop are true, honest professionals who take great pride in their work, and deliver incredible results for their customers. Always competitively priced. Always thorough. After a recent accident (see photos) left my car battered beyond belief, the team at the Bodyshop went above and beyond with the repair work. Martin even resprayed the paintwork on my side mirror housing to complete the "as new" look at no extra cost. I have owned my car for 15 years, and can't remember the last time it looked this good! Amazing work by the repair team, and awesome customer service and communications by Rebecca throughout. A small, friendly business that offers a personal service and unbeatable results at a good price. They are the best I've ever used, and wouldn't go anywhere else!

I am beyond happy with this company, From the moment I spoke to Rebecca on the phone, i felt immediately at ease ( I knew this was NOT a cowboy outfit exploiting women, which i have come across before ) On a arrival I met Martin who was extremely polite and professional. The garage looked immaculate and I met the team who work there, I knew my car would be in good hands. In less the 3 days they beautifully repaired my car which had been sideswiped by a lorry! My car looked BETTER then new!!!! I nearly burst into tears with happiness. I found these guys on Google review for car body repair shops in my area. I'm very happy to leave a positive review because I believe in credit where credit is due. If your car is your pride and joy and you want to leave it in good honest hands The Bodyshop is the place. decent hard-working people with impeccably good work.

The average car service price is between £170 – £300. However the price can vary considerably depending on factors such as the make/model of your car and the level of servicing required. A more prestige vehicle will typically be more expensive, as will a major service compared to an interim service.

The simplest method to check your vehicle’s service history is by looking at your car’s service book. This should log all services and repairs that your automobile has experienced.

A car service should be a same day turnaround. Barring any unusual instances we can ensure that your vehicle will be serviced and returned back to you within a few hours.

A vehicle service is due every year or 12,000 miles, whichever comes sooner – that is on average however. A more regular interim service is recommended every 6,000 miles, although the inspection will not be as thorough.

The below show how often you should service your vehicle, with the intensity of examination increasing at every stage:

    • An interim service is recommended every 6 months (or 6,000 miles)
    • A full service is recommended every 12 months (or 12,000 miles)
    • A major service is recommended every 24 months (or 24,000 miles)

The only items you need to bring to a car service are your vehicle and service book. The service book will be stamped upon completion.

Some vehicles do not have a service book, in which case services are recorded on the car’s key or via digital records held on a computer.
